Refinery29 and Natura commissioned me to create a series of illustrations accompanying an article that delves into the natural ingredients integral to Natura's beauty products. The focus was on Amazonian botanicals such as Açaí, Andiroba, Castanha, Murumuru, Patatua, Sapucainha, and Ucuuba.
My aim was to visually celebrate the richness and diversity of these ingredients, each with its unique properties and cultural significance. Drawing inspiration from mid-century design and screen printing techniques, I employed bold shapes, a limited color palette, and hand-drawn textures to create illustrations that are both informative and aesthetically engaging.
For instance, Murumuru, known for its moisturizing butter extracted from the seeds of the palm, is a staple in hair and skin care products . Similarly, Açaí oil, rich in phenolic compounds, is utilized in various cosmetic applications . By highlighting these ingredients through illustration, I aimed to bridge the gap between scientific information and visual storytelling, making the content accessible and appealing to a broad audience.
