When the Ernst Deutsch Theater invited me to illustrate The Wizard of Oz, I saw it as a chance to bring a fresh, playful energy to a timeless story. I used bold colors, textured shapes, and a screenprint-inspired style to create a handmade, whimsical feel.

I reimagined each character with simplicity and warmth—Dorothy wide-eyed and curious, the Scarecrow lanky and kind, the Tin Man soft despite his metal, and the Lion gentle and shy. My goal was to balance nostalgia with a modern touch, blending folk influences with clean, contemporary lines.

Theater is all about atmosphere, so I designed the scenes to feel open and theatrical, almost like stills from a stage set. I wanted viewers to feel the magic of Oz before the play even began.
